Pakistani forces today violated the six-year-old ceasefire agreement with India along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir in yet another incident today and a jawan was killed for the first time when they targeted an Indian post.

Around 0130 hours, Pakistani troops fired 20 rounds from small arms at Indian positions in Balnoi area in Poonch district, about 230 km from here, sources in the Army Headquarters in New Delhi said.

"Pakistan violated ceasefire in the wee hours when they opened fire on our troops deployed on a forward post at 0130 hours," Brig General Staff (BGS) Gurdeep Singh of 16 Corps said.

He said the issue will be taken up with Pakistani authorities and a protest lodged.

During the firing, Lance Naik Dug Bahadur Gurung of 2nd Gorkha Rifles received bullet injuries and later died, he said.

The Indian troops retaliated firing only 2-3 rounds, the Army headquarters sources said.

"Our troops responded with controlled retaliation to the Pakistani firing," they said.

Till now, over 40 incidents of ceasefire violation have been reported this year, mostly along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sectors.
