New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh's book that heaps praise on Mohammed Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan, and blames Jawaharlal Nehru for the Partition of India in 1947 was launched at Nehru Memorial Museum and Library auditorium at Teen Murti complex on Monday.
Singh's Jinnah -- India, Partition, Independence was launched with a panel discussion. The panelists included Hindi literary critic Namwar Singh, lawyer and politician Ram Jethmalani, economist and author Lord Meghnad Desai, journalists BG Verghese, MJ Akbar, Mark Tully and Hamid Haroon (CEO of Dawn newspaper in Pakistan). There was no one from the BJP or from the Congress in the audience or the panel.
While Namwar pointed out the literary tradition of portraying villains in good light, Jethmalani blamed Nehru for all the problems faced by India. Meghnad Desai felt the division of India on communal lines was inevitable. Verghese and Akbar were the most vocal about the communalist politics played by Jinnah. Hamid, however, felt that Jinnah should be seen in the same light as Congress liberals Dadabhai Naoroji and Sir Pheroze Shah Mehta.
