Japanese inks MoU for industrial zone near Ahmedabad

Memorandum of Understanding was signed by GIDC, GIDB, iNDEXTb and JETRO on Tuesday.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday between Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB), Industrial Extension Bureau (iNDEXT-b) and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) to set up a special Japanese industrial zone near Ahmedabad.

A high-level delegation of JETRO called on chief minister Narendra Modi at his residence in Gandhinagar on Tuesday and the MoU was signed in his presence.

Giving details, JETRO president Hideihiro Yokoo said that GIDC would develop a special Japanese industrial zone near the city.
GIDB would design and develop the infrastructural facilities of the zone, while iNDEXTb would facilitate Japanese investors and delegations of various Japanese companies in Gujarat, he said.

Besides, various investment promotion, seminars will also be arranged in Japan. JETRO would also play a central role in acquainting Japanese companies about the opportunities in the state ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in 2013.

Describing the signing of the MoU as a landmark, the CM said that partnership between Japan and Gujarat was growing in a big way with the development of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Dholera SIR. He added that JETRO's ties with Gujarat would prove
beneficial to both parties.

Also present at the MoU signing were industries minister Saurabh Patel, principal secretary to CM K Kailashnathan, principal secretary (industries) Maheshwar Sahu, GIDB CEO AK Sharma, GIDC vice-chairman BB Swain and iNDEXTb managing director Mukesh Kumar.
