Janaki Ballabh Patnaik sworn in as new governor of Assam

Patnaik had served as Congress chief minister of Orissa for two terms and was appointed Assam governor after the term of the outgoing governor Syed Sibtey Razi expired this month.

Assam's new governor Janaki Ballabh Patnaik was sworn in today in a simple function at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan here in the presence of chief minister Tarun Gogoi and his cabinet collegaues. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Gauhati High Court chief justice J Chelameswar.

Patnaik had served as Congress chief minister of Orissa for two terms and was appointed Assam governor after the term of the outgoing governor Syed Sibtey Razi expired this month.

Razi, who had served for only eight months after his arrival here from Jharkhand, was given a warm send-off by Gogoi and his cabinet colleagues at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here yesterday.
