\Research scientists, anti-nuclear campaigners and volunteers met at a seminar on Anti Nuclear struggles and lessons from Fukushima with an aim to analyse the Fukushima disaster. Serious concerns were raised about Jaitapur power plant and the volunteers demanded complete shut down.

The farmers have not accepted compensation and the money is lying in the state treasury. We want the Maharashtra government to stop forceful acquisition by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) immediately," said Vaishali Patil, convener, Konkan Vinashkari Prakalpa Virodhi Samiti.

"Close to 5,300 million litres of radio-active cooling water will be deposited into the sea off the cost of Jaitapur every day. This will continue for 30 years and over a period of time, this radio-active water will spread along the Konkan and Goa coast and may even reach up to Mumbai." said Rajendra Patil an active member of the Samiti.

Karuna Raina, Greenpeace anti-nuclear campaigner, who had visited the site at Chernobyl Power Plant in Ukrain this year, said that India needs to rethink its stance in nuclear power. "Our reaction to Japan disaster was knee-jerk. We refused to believe that the disaster had taken place. Jaitapur is a coastal place and there is a high risk.
