Zakia Jafri, widow of former Congress MP Ahesan Jafri who was killed during the 2002 riots, and her family, are mentally prepared for another round of legal battle.

They want FIRs to be registered against people suspected of having played a role in the riots, including chief minister Narendra Modi.

However, the family says it will wait till March 3 when the next hearing on Zakia's petition is scheduled in the Supreme Court.

After the Tehelka expose of the report submitted by the special investigation team (SIT) before the apex court, Zakia and her family are hopeful of justice. They believe the facts mentioned in the Tehelka report are true.

The Supreme Court lawyer, Raju Ramachandran, is the amicus curiae in the case arising out of Zakia Jafri's petition which had sought an investigation into the alleged role of Modi and 62 others in the 2002 riots. On January 20, 2011, he submitted a brief report on the SIT probe to the apex court.

"The hearing on the same is scheduled for March 3," Tanveer Jafri told DNA on the phone. "We will decide our future course of action on the basis of what transpires at this hearing." Tanveer Jafri is Zakia's son and is himself a petitioner in the case.

"The amicus curie submitted his report at a time when we had completely lost all hope of any positive outcome from the SIT's investigation," Tanveer said.      Turn to p7
