Calling for a greater awareness among the women about their basic rights and the benefits provided under various schemes launched by the government, the Jammu and Kashmir government today urged them to shed ignorance and play their role in eradication of social evils.
More and more awareness programmes should be organised to ensure participation of women and to sensitise them about their role in the society, minister for social welfare Sakina Itoo said addressing a gathering after inaugurating a two-day legal awareness programme organised at Samba, about 40km from here.
She stressed upon the women to look forward and raise their voice against injustice and other atrocities to build a value-based society.
The minister asked them to focus on awareness programmes and reach out to the womenfolk at their doorsteps particularly those residing in remote and inaccessible areas, so as to educate them about their legal rights.
