J&K employees' strike hits health care services

Employee associations held protest demonstrations and took out protest rallies in Jammu and at other district headquarters and sub-divisions in the state.

Work in government offices, hospitals and educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir was badly hit today as the strike by government employees in support of their demands including 6th Pay Commission arrears and increase in retirement age entered the fourth day.

The strike called by the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) and Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) has also paralysed the functioning of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Corporations across the state.
    
Health care system was badly hit as most of the Out Patient departments at the Government Medical college (GMC) hospital and associated hopsitals in most districts were non-functional with the only exception being the emergency wards.

Employee associations held protest demonstrations and took out protest rallies in Jammu and at other district headquarters and sub-divisions in the state.

"The government has done nothing to meet our demands even as sops were given to various sections of people", JK Secretariat Employees Association President Nazir Ahmed Mir told reporters.
    
"We would be forced to announce indefinite strike in J&K if they fail to respond to this strike by this evening. Government should take us seriously ", JCC leader Abdul Qayoom said.
    
Referring to an earlier statement of chief minister Omar Abdullah that he does not have money to pay 6th pay commission
arrears, the agitationists asked why he hiked the salaries of his ministers and legislators just a week ago.
