The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP today said that chief minister Omar Abdullah should resign for "failing" to deal with the Kashmir crisis.

"The chief minister has totally failed to control law and order situation in Kashmir valley. We want him to step down from his post," state BJP president Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters in Jammu.

Abdullah is not aware of the real problem and its solution, he said.

The BJP leader also blamed the Congress, which is the National Conference's coalition partner in the state, for the situation in Kashmir.

"Congress is equally responsible for the crisis," he said.

On the Leh tragedy, he said party legislators in the state would donate Rs5 lakh each to the Leh tragedy fund.

"All 11 BJP MLAs have decided to donate Rs5 lakh each from their Constituency Development Funds to the Leh tragedy fund," Manhas said.
