An IT professional was abducted while he was on his way to office and a ransom of Rs20 lakh demanded for his release, police said here today.
Sandipan Das, an employee of Capgemini, an IT firm at Rajarhat in North 24 Parganas, was abducted last evening when he was going to office from his residence at Gangulybagan in the southern part of the city.
Das was to report for night shift.
"We were worried but didn't go to the police initially. At 3 AM, there was a call from kidnappers demanding Rs20 lakh," family sources said.
"We then contacted the police and told them everything in detail but nothing has been done so far," the sources said.
Police said they were trying to trace the call. "But right now the entire matter is under investigation and I cannot say anything more," a senior police officer, who is investigating the matter, said.
