From JCP to head constable, personnel posted with DCB, Ahmedabad, in 2004 were indicted in report filed by Magistrate SP Tamang.

Tarun Barot
Very few officers even complete four years in the Detection of Crime Branch, Ahmedabad but Barot managed to spend around 12 years there. Posted as police sub-inspector in the DCB, he was transferred after he became the deputy superintendent of police (DySP). In the interim period he got an out-of-turn promotion in 1992 when he nabbed the weapons of notorious terrorist Lal Singh in Vasna.  Every time he was transferred from the DCB, he got the order revoked by claiming that he was under threat from criminals belonging to the Wahab and Abdul Latif gangs,
as he had played an important role in eliminating these notorious criminals.

PP Pande
A very senior IPS officer, currently posted as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), CID (Crime), PP Pande was posted as joint commissioner of police, Detection of Crime Branch, in 2004, when Ishrat Jahan was killed. He is also accused in the Sadik Jamal encounter case. 

JG Parmar, retired DySP
Promoted as Deputy Superintendent of Police from police inspector a day before his retirement and later awarded with an extension of a month as DySP, JG Parmar was an important officer in the DG Vanzara team — to arrange for resources. Parmar was allegedly named during the investigation of Raju Jeerawala, who mentioned in his statement that the keys of Arham Farm House were handed over to him for a religious programme. However, the investigation revealed that the farmhouse was allegedly used to detain people like Sohrabuddin Shaikh and others.

Nizamuddin Saiyyad
A close aide of Tarun Barot, he has been posted in DCB for almost the same number of years as Barot. Saiyyad has been a key resource person for DCB when it comes to gathering information from the minority community. Saiyyad, who hails from Juhapura area, has allegedly a strong network of informers in the minority areas and is believed to be the point man of Barot in these areas. Saiyyad played an important role in encounters other than the Ishrat Jahan case. Of around 20 years spent in the police force, he been in the DCB for 14.

GL Singhal
Started his career as deputy superintendent of police and has been promoted to IPS cadre. Singhal is considered an important officer when it comes to gathering information from the minority community. He first took charge as an IPS officer as the DySP, Gandhinagar and was later again transferred, to the Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad. Singhal was considered to be close to DG Vanzara when he was posted in the Detection of Crime Branch. Singhal then was posted as assistant commissioner of police and was present in the Ishrat Jahan encounter team headed by Vanzara.
