The executive members of IPS Officers' Association of Gujarat met on Wednesday to lend a helping hand to the arrested IPS officers and their families. The meet also raised concerns about the security of all the arrested police officials.

Eight IPS officers and members of the executive committee of IPS association were present at the meeting in which issues relating to the security of the arrested IPS and non-IPS officers and their families were discussed.

General secretary, IPS officers' Association, Vinod Mall told DNA that the members present in the meeting suggested some measures to help the arrested officials.  However, he said the association was also keen on not inadvertently hampering the investigations. The association also decided to meet the family members of the arrested officers and extend whatever help possible. "The help could be either financial or related to security," Mall said.

The issue of security of IPS and non-IPS officials arrested and lodged in various prisons were also discussed.

"These officers have been chasing criminals and now are lodged in the same prison as some of the criminals they caught. This could create problems for the officials," Mall said.  Mall said that the association will suggest some measures to provide security for these officials. Sources said some of the suggestions may include providing a separate section within the jail for arrested police officials.

Director general of police (Home Guards), RMS Brar who heads the association, said, "In wake of the present situation, some association members have suggested that a meeting should be held to discuss the issue. So, we conducted the meeting."

Besides Brar and Mall, Ajay Tomar, Vikas Sahay, RB Brahmbhatt, MM Anarwala, Brijesh Jha and Piyush Patel were present in the meeting. The association had last met around a month ago to hold a condolence meet following the death of two retired IPS officers.
