Investment firm employees robbed of Rs4 lakh in Ahmedabad

Two employees of an investment firm were robbed of Rs4 lakh in broad daylight in Navrangpura on Friday afternoon. Two men on a black motorbike first faked an accident and, in the confusion that followed, zoomed off with the money near Mithakhali crossroads.

Hansmukh Patel, 28, resident of Ghumagam, lodged an FIR with Navrangpura police in this connection. Patel and his friend, Bhagin Parmar, work with an investment firm. On Friday, the duo had gone to an Angadia firm at Navrangpura to fetch Rs4 lakh.
After collecting Rs4 lakh from the angadia firm, they went to the HDFC bank at Mithakhali crossroads and withdrew Rs26,000 from there.

When they were returning to office with all the money, two men on a bike faked an accident near them. While the driver kept the employees engaged in conversation, the pillion rider stole the bag containing Rs4 lakh.

Police said that before the victims could realise that they were being robbed, the two men on the motorbike sped off with the money. The victims lodged an FIR with the Navrangpura police, who said that this was the typical modus operandi of some gangs active in the city.

Apart from faking accidents, the gangs also use other tricks such as throwing some currency notes on the road near their victim’s vehicle, the police said. One of the gang members would then tell the victim that his money lay scattered on the road.

As soon as the victim goes to collect the money, the other members of the gang walk away with valuables from the victim’s vehicle.  In recent times, robberies by these gangs had been reported in Navrangpura, Vastrapur and Naranpura among others, the police said.
