On agitating since Thursday morning flaying the unhygienic, unbearable and unliveable conditions at Civil Hospital, over 3,000 students are steadfast on their indefinite strike, albeit, this is not the first time that these healthcare personnel have to fight for their 'liveable' rights. However, this time they definitely seem to be inching closer to what they rightfully deserve to get as humans.

"I have been working at the Civil since I was 14 years old, but, things back then were not as murky. Today, as one can see, there is filth everywhere on the campus. And with the ongoing construction work for the last three-four months, matters have only worsened. Take for instance the sewage pipe, at the back door of where we cook, which has been overflowing with filth from all possible angles. Repeated complaints have only fallen on deaf ears", lamented a member of the canteen team.

Detailing the number of students admitted as patients, a second year gynaecology student said that in the last month 76 students had been admitted, of them, 20 are still admitted as patients and are getting treated. However, of these 20, nearly 10 have been diagnosed with dengue and around three cases are stated to be serious. We have already lost two students, a first year MBBS and and a fourth year Nursing student to dengue."

"We demand our basic amenities - water, electricity and cleanliness - while we continue to serve people of Gujarat. However, our charter of demands send to the government officials seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Fortunately, our associate professors are supporting us along with our dean, who too has complained in the past to the PIU and PWD departments, but of to no avail. Such is the sorry state of affairs, that only this Thursday, and during our ongoing agitation, 9 more students who were diagnosed with dengue were admitted. Is the government on a head count spree of the number of students falling ill or succumbing to this disease?" another aggrieved student questioned.

Joining the students since Friday evening are doctors from the emergency ward.
