The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) arrested one person in an inter-state car theft racket where the accused was selling the stolen vehicles from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Muradabad, in Gujarat. The police have seized three cars stolen from these states and sold in the city with duplicate registration certificate book issued from the 'home' states.
Based on a tip-off received on February 4, police arrested Kayam Pathan, a resident of Raikhad area in the city. The cops nabbed him and seized three vehicles, a Santro, an Innova and a Maruti Zen from the accused.
Cops of the DCB said Pathan was involved in the scam for many months and had sold many cars in the city. The police have also identified the names of the accused from Uttar Pradesh who were supplying the stolen cars in the city. Raja Shaikh and Aniruddh Yadav, the two accused, were supplying the stolen cars as well as the duplicate RC books to Pathan.
The DCB has identified the owners of the stolen vehicles from UP, Uttarakhand and Muradabad. A cop said there are more such cars that have been stolen from these states and sold in the city. "We are in the process of getting the details of similar cars," the cop said.
