Inquiry ordered into tanker fire: Kerala chief minister

The fire was caused due to gas emission after an LPG tanker hit a car and toppled, claiming seven lives.

Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan today said a comprehensive inquiry has been ordered into the LPG tanker blaze at Karunagappally in Kollam on Thursday, which claimed seven lives.

A compensation of Rs5 lakh would be given to the next of kin of those killed in the accident. Besides, a member of each family would be given employment, and the government would meet expenses of the treatment of those injured, the chief minister told reporters here.

The fire was caused due to gas emission after the tanker hit a car and toppled.

Achuthanandan said he had written to Union minister for petroleum Murli Deora seeking action to avoid such incidents in future.

He said the government would examine the delay in implementing proposals for modernisation of the state fire force and take remedial action.
