India to get London-held Dawood aide Iqbal Mirchi extradited

Mirchi is among India's most wanted along with his boss Dawood Ibrahim and the two are accused in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts.

A day after Iqbal Mirchi, a top aide of terror accused Dawood Ibrahim, was arrested in London, India on Wednesday said it was initiating extradition processes to get him to India to face trial in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

"The processes involved for his (Iqbal Mirchi) extradition are being initiated,” ministry of external affairs spokesperson Vishnu Prakash said in response to a query here.

“A Red Corner notice for the arrest of Iqbal Mirchi had been issued and continues to be valid, which means that he is a wanted person and that we do seek his extradition back to India," Prakash said.

Iqbal Mirchi is among India's most wanted along with his boss Dawood Ibrahim and the two are accused in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. Mirchi was declared a proclaimed offender by an Indian court in 1994 and had fled India in 1995. An Interpol notice is pending against him.
