India’s top cops get FSL refresher

As many as 22 IPS officers from different states are getting trained on how to apply forensic science in their investigation and security purposes. The training programme, funded by the ministry of home affairs, government of India, began on Tuesday and will continue for five days.

The officers of the ranks of Inspector General (IG) and Additional Director General of Police (ADDG) from many states of the country are undergoing the Vertical Interaction Training at the Forensic Science Laboratory at Gandhinagar, where the exact application of the forensic technology will be showed to them.

Talking to DNA, the director of FSL, JM Vyas said that 22 IPS officers from states including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Assam among others are undergoing the training at the FSL campus. “They will be exposed to all the technology available to the FSL and will be trained to apply the use of technology in the crime investigations,” he said.

Vyas further said that once trained, the police officials will later be able to use the available technology in their states. “The course had been funded by GOI to extend the use of forensic science in crime investigation,” he said.

Gujarat cadre officers include Ashish Bhatia, Tirthraj, AK Singh, Arun Sharma and IM Desai, while there are other officers of their cadre. During this five-day long programme, the officers will be exposed to all the available technology at the FSL.

Special Protection Group officers, associated with the security of the prime minister are also a part of the training. “The training will also be focused on the security aspects of the VIPs as well as of the country,” Vyas said. The latest types of gadgets and its exact use will be told to them during the training.

FSL, Gandhinagar was able to grab the opportunity of training these personnel after competing with the other FSLs in the country. The FSL at Gandhinagar is considered to be one among the best forensic science laboratories in the world.
