India's first paperless court takes off

India's first district level paperless e-court today started functioning at the Karkardooma complex in New Delhi with additional sessions judge Sanjay Garg presiding over the seamless proceedings.

The Delhi high court chief justice AP Shah formally inaugurated the e-court in the presence of several other judges and judicial officers.

Justice AP Shah said the e-courts will bring more transparency and efficiency in the justice delivery system.

"The beginning of e-courts will bring more transparency and efficiency in the justice delivery system and also make the process of justice delivery more speedy," he said.

Referring to the e-court recently started at the Delhi high court he said that "idea seems to be catching up" and the idea is bound to change the way the judiciary is functioning.
 
"Beginning of the e-courts will bring judicial system in consonance with the 21st century ... five years down the line almost all the courts of Delhi will be converted into e-courts," justice Shah said.

Elaborating upon the functioning justice Badar Durrez Ahmed said that the court is connected with the hospitals and police stations through internet and witnesses can depose and cross-examined even staying away from the court.

"The overall impact of establishment of e-court will result in quick disposal of cases, reliability of the evidence recorded and bring more transparency in the functioning of the district courts," the Karkardooma court authority said in a statement.
