India has decided not to approach Pakistan for any information related to David Coleman Headley, arrested by the FBI for plotting a major attack in India at the behest of Lashkar-e-Taiba, despite an "obvious Pakistan link" as it would be a futile move.

Government sources said Indian agencies are in constant touch with the US investigators and gathering all information and have decided not to approach Pakistani authorities even though two persons were arrested in the neighbouring country on the FBI's advice.

"We will not request Pakistan for any information as such exercises in the past always proved to be futile. So, whatever information is required, we will take it from FBI and not from Pakistan," a source said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Pakistan has provided no information to India in relation to the conspiracy.

Home minister P Chidambaram has said, "there is an obvious Pakistan link. (David Coleman) Headley visited Pakistan a number of times and I think on the advice of the FBI, two or perhaps more people have been arrested in Pakistan".

Details of conversation between Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistan-born Canadian citizen and a resident of Chicago, submitted by prosecutors to the Chicago court, indicates that the LeT was giving priority to its attack on the National Defence College and other targets.

The reference to the National Defence College as a target was made by the duo during their conversation on September 7, which was recorded by the FBI.
