Hours after Jharkhand came under the President's rule for the second time, governor MOH Farooq today asked the officials to improve work culture and put development works on the fast lane.
Chairing a high-level meeting, Farooq directed them to take effective steps for conducting Panchayat elections in the state which last saw polls for local bodies in 1977.
If there was a need for amendment in the Panchayat law steps should be taken immediately, a Raj Bhavan press release said quoting him.
Officials should ensure punctuality and efficiency through proper work culture, the governor told the meeting, attended among others by chief secretary AK Singh and state police chief Neyaz Ahmed.
"Efficient workers will be felicitated and the inefficient would be punished... corruption will not be tolerated at any level," the release said here.
Emphasising that there should not be any laxity in implementation of development programmes, Farooq expressed regret that the state had not been able to reap the total benefits from the centrally-sponsored schemes.
He called for work with a renewed vigour in the sectors of NREGA, road, public distribution system, healthcare, midday meals, Sarva Sikhsa Abhiyan and agriculture.
