"The city is likely to keep its usual monsoon onset date, between June 15 and 20," said Dr Kamaljit Ray, director of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad.

IMD forecasts light to moderate rain over isolated places over south and north Gujarat during next two days, while it forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall activity at many places in Saurashtra and Kutch during the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, heavy and scattered rain poured in most parts of Saurashtra on Monday too.

The rains claimed two more lives in Junagadh district as two minor girls drowned in a river at Ranavadvalanagar.
Sutrapada, Veraval, Mangrol and Talala received heavy rain with strong winds. Other districts of Saurashtra like Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Amreli and Porbandar received moderate rain throughout the day. Highest rainfall was recorded in Sutrapada - 6 inches in last 24 hours.

Earlier, the region witnessed 12 inch rainfall in 12 hours. The adjoining town Mangrol also received 5 inches of rain.
After the depression centred over the Arabian Sea on Sunday weakened into a low pressure area on Monday and was a precursor to rainfall activities in Saurashtra and Kutch, the weather office declared monsoon onset over parts of the state.

Ray said, "Effects of low pressure gave parts of Saurashtra and Kutch good rainfall activity. With this, the southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of Saurashtra."

The weather office discontinued the port warning and the port lower LCS III signal from all ports of Gujarat coast which was issued on Sunday.
