Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will play a major role in implementation of the choice-based credit system (CBCS) in Guj varsities.
For this purpose, the commissioner of higher education, Gandhinagar, will have a tie-up with IGNOU and a MoU to this effect will be signed between the two on Wednesday. According to sources, the higher education department had last week sent a seven-member team headed by AK Singh, former vice-chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Open University, to meet IGNOU officials in Delhi.
A member, who was part of the delegation, said that an action plan has been fixed and the department will cash in on the expertise of IGNUO in implementing CBCS.
With the implementation of CBCS, a postgraduate student will be able to move across disciplines and across campuses to study electives. The process has already been set in motion and the system will be introduced from this academic year 2010-11.
"Universities across the state are implementing the system and we are trying to help in the process. Apart from IGNOU, we are getting inputs from Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Open University as they have CBCS supporting material which will help our varsities a lot," said Jayanti Ravi, commissioner of higher education.
