Amid rising concern over the status of Hyderabad when Telangana is carved out of Andhra, the Supreme Court (SC) said on Wednesday the city would be a “free zone” entitling people from other parts of the state to compete for police and other government jobs.
Justices GS Singhvi and Mukundakam Sharma rejected a review of their judgment that assumes significance as the protagonists of Telangana have been insisting that Hyderabad should be a part of the proposed state. SC had earlier ruled that people from all parts of the state would have equal rights in government jobs, postings and promotions as clause 14(f) of the presidential order of 1975 excluded certain posts, including those filled under the Hyderabad City Police Act, from restrictions in matters of appointment and posting.
