After Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani, it was the turn of moderate leader Shabir Shah to face the ire of rightwing groups.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members manhandled the senior Hurriyat leader on Thursday and ransacked the venue of his press conference in Jammu. Shah, who was released from jail after nine months on Wednesday, was staying in a local hotel.
In the afternoon when he was addressing the press conference, BJYM workers barged in, ransacked furniture and tried to hit him. Shah’s supporters foiled the attempt.
Soon, police reached the venue and took the offenders into custody. After a while, order was restored and Shah started addressing the conference. He said that the youths had been hired to attack him.
