Security forces have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition belonging to Maoists from West Bengal's Lalgarh District.

Acting on a tip-off, police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel launched a joint operation in the area against the ultras.

The Commandant of the CRPF's 50th Battalion, Shankarlal Sengupta, said that around 35 to 40 kilograms of explosives have been recovered during the combing operation.

"We carried out operations and eventually we could recover some explosives as you have seen approximately it may be 35 to 40 kg and one single barrel 315 inch weapon possibly it is country-made but I am not sure that the expert will be able to tell whether it is country-made or hand made and one live IED (improvised explosive device), it is still underground and the squad will arrive," said Sengupta.

Considering it as a big achievement, Sengupta said that 70 country-made weapons have also been recovered.

"70 odd weapons from Enayetpur, all our country- made and for today it is a big achievement for the joint forces," he added.
