How Santokben Jadeja of Porbandar became a godmother

Till 1986, Godmother Santokben Jadeja was homemaker and mother to four sons. In December of that year her husband - Sarman Munja Jadeja - was murdered in cold blood by a gang, who with the murder won a longstanding rivalry.

To avenge the murder of her husband, Santokben plunged into the underworld and became a Godmother. "I am a mother and wanted security for me and my children after their father's murder. They (gangsters) were harassing us; we did what had to be done for saving ourselves," Santokben had said in an interview before her death. Her later years were mired in controversies.

Her name surfaced in 2005 in the murder of Keshu Odedara, a councillor with Porbandar municipality.
