Hoax caller arrested in Delhi, wanted to create panic at Gaffar Market

Seeing his sister who was injured in the bomb blast in Gaffar Market in Karol Bagh two years ago, he always used to feel depressed and he wanted to create panic at the same locality by making a hoax bomb call.

Prakash, who deals in used garments, landed in the police net for making the hoax call using his mobile phone.

On November 27, a senior police officer said, he allegedly made a call to Karol Bagh police station claiming that a bomb will explode in C-Block of Gaffar Market.

After an extensive search in the market where a bomb blast in September 2008 killed over 30 people, police declared the call a hoax.

Initial investigation revealed that the call was made from a mobile number which was later found switched off.

"The owner of the SIM card was interrogated who in turn told police that he had lost it about one and a half year ago. The call detail records were procured and analysed but no clue emerged. Technical surveillance was used and further follow-up revealed that the number is being used by one Prakash," the officer said.

The officer claimed that Prakash initially did not admit to the crime.

"Later, he told police that his sister Puja was injured in the bomb blast in September 2008. Whenever he looked at his sister, the incident used to come afresh in his mind due to which he was unable to concentrate on his business of old garments," the officer said.

This led to "frustration and depression" and he allegedly made the hoax call so that panic could be created at the same place. "His attempt created panic among the public and wastage of time and police manpower," the official said.
