NEW DELHI: Don't be surprised if you find a Hindi advertisement of a product in your mobile handset when you receive an SMS (short messaging service).

An ad-supported Hindi SMS solution called 'MeghDoot' has been developed by Tensor Technologies Pvt Ltd (TTPL), a technology company incubated at Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi, TTPL CEO C. Chandrasekhar said here on Wednesday.

"We have joined 'ZestADZ', India's first mobile advertising marketplace, to launch Hindi language messaging. 'MeghDoot' will help advertisers to publicise their products in Hindi in mobiles," he added.

'MeghDoot' uses a mobile transliteration technology application, which enables users to send Hindi SMS to almost any phone using an English keypad.

Describing it as the world's first intelligent mobile transliteration technology, Chandrasekhar said that it ran on almost any type of phone.

The technology sends Hindi messages in the form of text or picture messages from one phone to another.

Users incur just the cost of a single SMS as priced by the operator while sending messages to other users. Users receiving messages do not need to install anything to receive Hindi messages, he said.

"ZestADZ is our advertising partner, which will enable the delivery of text and banner ads within the application," said Chandrasekhar.
