Security agencies guarding the Delhi metro are on high alert following the Moscow subway blasts that killed at least 38 commuters on Monday.
Senior officers of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said they were taking “extra precautions” to prevent any terror attack.
The heightened security measures include baggage checking and deployment of plainclothes personnel with firearms. Spotters (people trained to identify terror suspects in crowds) and dog squads (at platforms and in trains), will also be deployed. Nearly 1,600 personnel (including women commandos) will also be added to the existing strength of 3,000.
“The metro is a very sensitive installation and has always been on terror hit-list. Over 10 lakh people travel daily by the metro. We have sounded an alert at all stations,” an officer said.
He said commuters might face delays because of baggage checking. “There are X-ray machines to check baggage at every station; some baggage may also be checked manually.”
