Heroin worth Rs5 crore in the international market has been seized in Amritsar from three smugglers allegedly active along Indo-Pak border, including one who had earlier served a 12-year rigorous imprisonment for the same offence.

Special operation cell of the Punjab police seized one kg of the contraband and arrested Virsa Sing, Satnam Singh and Lakhbir Singh. Another smuggler Manjinder Singh escaped from the spot, police said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Virsa was earlier caught with 100kg of heroin and had undergone 12 years of RI before being released in 2006. Satnam was also a convict in a case of seizure of 40kg of the drug.

The recovered heroin is said to be smuggled in from Khemkaran sector, a few months back.
