To keep pace with the growing need for inpatient beds and rapidly advancing medical technoloy, a city-hospital group has embarked on a Rs200 crore project sperad over 25 acres.
The KMCH Medi City Project would have the provision of 150 additional impatient beds, a 300-bed cancer hospital, 100 bed paediatric hospital and an eye hospital with modern facilities, chairman of Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), Dr Nalla G Palanisamy said.
The medi-city, to be completed in three phases, would also house teaching and training institutes for medical, paramedical and hospital administration at graduate and post- graduate level, he said.
In the first phase of expansion, a new hospital block has been built with 150 speciality, single type beds to meet immediate demand for inpatient beds and with this the hospital will have 500 beds, Palanisamy said.
The hospital was also engaged in construction of a most modern 300-bed cancer hospital with seven operation theatres, with KMCH Academy in the third phase.
The group envisages putting up a 100-bed paediatric hospital and eye hosital by 2010 and also proposed to establish a medical college and hospital in the Medi-city campus, he said.
