In a new twist to the Tahawwur Rana tale, the city police have filed an FIR against the owner of the Lemon Tree Hotel in Ahmedabad. The complaint against owner Palanjali Keshwani has been filed for non-compliance to a notification issued by the police commissioner and for violation of Registration of Foreigners Act.

The special branch of the police has also filed a complaint against former manager of the hotel Satish Mehrotra and present manager Subanshu Sharma. The complaint has been filed with the Navrangpura police station. ACP (special branch) GS Malik told DNA that the complaint relates to not maintaining proper records of Rana's stay at the hotel.

“The CCTV cameras were also not installed in the hotel for almost a year which was a violation of a police notification,” said Malik.

The move follows reports that terror suspect Rana, who is also an aide to David Headley, along with his wife Samraz Akhtar stayed at the Lemon Tree hotel in Ahmedabad before the 26/11 terror attack.

Rana and Headley were arrested by the FBI for allegedly plotting a terror attack. Officials told mediapersons that the special branch found that the hotel had not informed the police about the stay of a foreign national by submitting the 'C' form which is mandatory in such cases. Officials said that the there was no mention of the stay of Rana and his wife in the hotel register.

The computer records though show that they had stayed there. When contacted, Lemon Tree hotel officials in Ahmedabad declined to comment saying that only the corporate office in New Delhi was authorised to talk to the media.

Although DNA tried to contact the hotel's corporate office in New Delhi, no officials were available for comment. Officials also believe that the hotel was given permission to begin its operation from November 19, 2008 onwards but it began functioning from November 7.

Officials said that Rana stayed in room number 310 of the hotel between November 18, 2008 and November 20,2008.
