Ahmedabad: There has been a shooting inside a Gujarat high court chamber during the hearing of a rape case; and the person who shot the scene, probably on a spy-cam, has put the images on YouTube.
The act represents a grave security breach because the court is among the most sensitive establishments of the state government. Photography or videography on the court's premises are strictly prohibited.
The court has taken a serious note of the incident and the court's information technology department has referred the matter to the acting Gujarat chief justice.
The clips have been uploaded on the video-sharing site in three parts and bear the common title: 'How Gujarat high court works'. The videos have recorded what appears to be the hearing of a bail application in a rape case, presided over by justice ZK Saiyad. The clippings also show the assistant government pleader, RC Kodekar; and a lawyer who seems to bear the surname of Barot.
"The information technology department has submitted the papers before the acting chief justice for further action," said PP Bhatt, the registrar-general of the Gujarat high court.
Recently, the security staff of the court had caught a person who was capturing the images of the high court with a cellphone.
As for the shooting involving the rape case, it is surmised from the angle of the shots that they were taken from the middle row of the benches. The first clipping has caught the arguments presented by the lawyer of the person on trial, who airs several grievances to the judge. Among other things, the argumentative defendant says that the charges have not been framed in the case for a year.
