Two phone calls in which a caller allegedly said that chief minister Narendra Modi would be assassinated while attending public meetings on Monday, kept the state police on their toes the whole day. Sources in the police department said that, on Monday evening, the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) reportedly detained two persons in this connection from the ghettoes in western Ahmedabad.

However, on Monday, Modi attended the three programmes — at Vastral, Rakhial and Mahesana — that he was scheduled to attend. His meetings passed off without any incident. The sources said the city control room apparently received the first phone call on Sunday evening and the second call the following morning.

“The caller was very specific on Sunday,” a senior police officer, who did not want to be identified, said. “He described everything, from the dress of the killers to the location
of the place Modi would be visiting.”

According to reports, the caller claimed his name was Ajay. He had reportedly made the phone call using VoIP (voice over internet protocol) on the internet.  Turn to p14
