A Surat youth was detected with swine flu on Sunday. The youth has been admitted to a private hospital in the city and is currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of a team of doctors.

The swine flu case has come to light in Surat after a lull of more than five months.

Rohit (name changed) is a resident of Colaba in Mumbai and working at Valkeshwar. Sources said that youth came to Surat 10 days back and was living on rent at Falcon Avenue apartment on City Light road. Rohit was suffering from high fever, cough and cold for the past five days. During medical check-up on Sunday, he was tested positive for swine flu and was immediately admitted to Mahavir Hospital.

Rohit was been quarantined at an isolation ward of the hospital, where he is being treated by a team of doctors. Civic health officers and doctors of NCH (New Civil Hospital) rushed to the hospital and questioned Rohit. Doctors are trying to find out how he got the infection.

“A patient shows symptoms of H1N1 virus seven days after getting infected. Rohit is in Surat for the past 10 days and this means he got infected by someone who is living in Surat. We are trying to figure out that the source. If the source is not traced, many more can get infected,” a top civic health official said.
