The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Monday re-arrested Danish Raiz alias Saif in a case registered with the Khadia police station in connection with the Ahmedabad serial blasts of July 2008. The investigating agency had, on Monday, filed an application for transfer warrant to re-arrest Danish in the Ahmedabad blasts case registered with the Khadia police.

Earlier, Danish was arrested by the agency on June 21, in connection with another blast case registered with Maninagar police station. The police were granted his custody for 12 days which ended on Monday. Danish was then produced before the court where the police sought his custody in the case registered with the Khadia police.

Danish was first arrested by a team of DCB Vadodara when he was travelling in the Secunderabad Express. He was nabbed on the basis of a tip-off. Sources said that Danish was among the key Indian Mujahideen (IM) members who had helped IM terrorists when they were on the run.

Sources in the police said that Danish, who had never visited Gujarat before, was acting as an undercover IM operative. He had given financial support to Tauqeer, Mujeeb Shaikh and Mohammad Ismail alias Abdul Rajik when they were on the run after carrying out serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad.

The sources also said that Danish used to arrange for funds from Hyderabad and that the police will be investigating in this direction further.

The Ahmedabad serial blasts, which were carried out by Indian Mujahideen operatives on July 26, 2008, had killed 58 people in the city. The case is being investigated by the DCB.
