Pradeep Prajapati, an associate professor of the department of economics of Gujarat University, was suspended on Thursday by vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi following reports that the former had leveled false charges of financial irregularities against the latter.
Trivedi said the suspension has been ordered as per the laws of the university.
"Prajapati had leveled allegations of financial irregularities against me,'' said Trivedi.
In his allegations, Prajapati had apparently stated that the V-C had known that the colleges were charging development fund fee
but were not showing it in the books, resulting in irregularities.
Trivedi said that the allegations were totally baseless as matters related to development fee and others are not solely taken by the V-C.
He said the executive council of the university also needs to be taken into confidence for any such decision.
He said that as long as the suspension stays, Prajapati will not be allowed to hold lectures or participate in university programmes.
