Gujarat University executive council approves 2011-12 budget of Rs65 crore

Gives nod to award scholarships to toppers in each subject & introduction of choice-based credit system

Academic and executive councils of Gujarat University, on Saturday, discussed and approved a Rs65 crore budget for the university for 2011-12.

The budget was first tabled on Friday in a meeting of the GU's finance committee. On Saturday, members of the two committees also agreed to award scholarship to four toppers in each subject of all departments from next year onwards.

The scholarships will be given to two male and female students each. The students will be selected on the basis of marks they have secured in the last exam.

The academic council also took the decision to introduce choice-based credit system in undergraduate studies from the next academic year.

The members also sanctioned a proposal to build a B.Ed and a management, building and one exclusively for conducting exams.
They also sanctioned a separate building for different courses of science stream on the campus.

Fifty five ad-hock employees will be made permanent while 'senior professor' grade will be given to 45 professors.

A proposal to introduce Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) for 5% of the total students of BBA and BCA self-financed colleges from the next academic year was also approved.

According to a member, the committee and many principals have shown enthusiasm in implementing the TFW. The issue of 167 employees of GU, who have not been given the benefits of the sixth pay commission, was also discussed in the meetings with members agreeing to extend the benefits to them in the near future.

All these proposals will be tabled before the senate members during the senate meet on March 28. Senate is the supreme authority in the university, which has the powers to give final nod to these proposals.
