Gujarat Technological University's (GTU) new syllabus for its MBA students will have a program that will require students to develop case studies after spending some time at different corporations. This unique program has been introduced in the syllabus by the GTU Innovation Council.
Talking to DNA, GTU vice-chancellor Dr Akshai Aggarwal said that the new program will require a student to critically evaluate certain policies of a firm and then prepare a case study on his experiences.
The program is also expected to help around 10,000 students studying in MBA colleges that are affiliated to GTU.
Explaining why GTU had come up with such a program, Aggrawal said that MBA programs all over the country are somewhat narrowly designed, and they have not been able to include new developments taking place in the field.
"MBA programs nowadays run the risk of becoming irrelevant to corporations," the vice-chancellor said.
"Hence, we thought of letting our students develop case studies on their own after a first-hand experience of industry. This will enable them to face competition better."
Aggarwal said the course will help MBA students know the real market of India, identify problems in different corporate sectors accurately and solve them effectively. The program is mainly for second-year MBA students.
The GTU Innovation Council has three MBA-specific councils for human resources, marketing and organisational structure.
Depending on their interest, the students will spend a few days with different corporations and firms (human resource, finance, etc) and submit case studies which will carry marks.
"The case studies will later help first-year students studying those specific topics," he said. Around 25 companies have confirmed their participation and have joined hands with GTU for this program.
"We are awaiting confirmation from several other companies. In all, we expect to have 200 companies joining us by this June," said Aggrawal.
