The five-day long silver jubilee celebration of the foundation day of Umiyadham, the temple of Kadva Patel community goddess mother Umiya at Sidsar in Jamnagar district, concluded on Monday. Former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel and former deputy chief minister Narhari Amin were present at the concluding ceremony.
Keshubhai, who had said in Surat on Sunday that Patels (Patidars) are living in fear in the state, said on Monday that Patidars are a Mahajati (a great community). “We need to identify our own strength and nobody’s help is needed for that. We are hardworking people and we should not be satisfied with our progress. We must achieve the peaks of development. We don’t need any reservations, because our strength is our reservation,” he told the gathering at Sidsar.
He subtly said, “The community leaders sitting on the dais know what to do and when. I would just say that whenever we give a call to the community, all people should come together.”
Around 28 lakh people visited Umiyadham over the last five days. The ‘Umiya Samruddhi Yojana - 2’ registered a donation of Rs100 crore since its announcement on December 4, 2011. And during the celebration, around 4,361 people donated blood, 85,000 people pledged to donate their eyes after death, and more than 300 people pledged to donate their bodies after death.
