These days a team from Gujarat police is busy studying the modus operandi, devices, and timings of the bomb blast and also the logic of selection of the spots of the serial bomb blasts that rocked Pune on Wednesday. The team will also help Pune investigators trace any Indian Mujahideen (IM) links to the blasts, as the state police was the first to bust the IM module in 2008.

The team, comprising cops from Anti Terrorists Squad (ATS) of Gujarat, reached Pune late on Thursday night and will stay there for a couple of days to study the entire blast scene. Talking to DNA, ATS chief, Manoj Shashidharan said that the team has been especially sent to study the modus operandi and devices used in the bomb blast. “Primarily, loking at the ground picture, the role of the IM militants cannot be ruled out,” he said.

Sources close to the development said that the devices used in the blast are very similar to the format of the Ahmedabad and Surat blasts. Sources also said that, the Gujarat cops will be visiting all the sites and will also interact with the investigators to gather inside information on the blasts. Sources also said that the Maharashtra police have found that the shopkeepers who had sold the bicycles to the planters were using Gujarati language.

However, talking to DNA, Shashidharan said that, so far there is no official intimation in this connection. “If we are approached we will surely get involved in the investigation,” he said. Eight serial blasts rocked Pune on Wednesday injuring two people. The bombs were planted in bicycles and in dustbins and exploded with the help of detonators.
