Police and bomb disposal squads have been deployed at all entry points in the city. Security has been tightened at all pubic places including airport and railway stations.
Minutes after three blasts rocked Mumbai's Opera House, Zaveri Bazaar, Dadar bus stand, city police put Ahmedabad on high alert.
Ahmedabad police commissioner Sudhir Sinha announced that high alert has been declared in the city. "We have put the city on high alert as we don't want to take any chance. All police officials have been informed to remain alert," declared Sudhir Sinha.
The commissioner has also asked the Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) to be on their toes. "QRTs and bomb disposal units play a crucial role during emergencies. We want to be 100% prepared for any eventuality," said Sinha, who urged people not to panic as the situation was under control.
Earlier in December 2010, security was upped across the city following intelligence inputs from centre that Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was planning to attack Ahmedabad.
On Wednesday, after learning about the possibility of terrorists' hand in the blasts in Mumbai, Ahmedabad police swung in to action expanding the security net. Sinha said security will be beefed up across all entry points of the city. "We have deployed police force across all roads which serve as entry points for outside vehicles. If needed, we will check each suspicious vehicle entering the city" said Sinha.
Apart from the entry points, security has been beefed up across all pubic places in the city. These include airport, bus stations, railway stations and government hospitals like VS Hospital, Civil Hospital and LG Hospital.
"Apart from government buildings and places, we have also stepped security across private properties like shopping malls and theatres across the city" said Sinha, adding that, these were precautionary measures and that public should not panic.
