In their first ever towards understanding the trade and competition law, Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) organised a two-day international conference on the same. It also launched its first ever journal on it titled 'Developing World Review on Trade and Competition'.

Vice-Chancellor, GNLU, Bimal Patel, Judge high court of Gujarat, Justice Ravi R Tripathi and Judge, Supreme Court of India, Justice Deepak Verma were present for the inaugural ceremony.

While Patel boasted of 24 GNLU students working as research assistants with judges of the Supreme Court, he also mentioned that nearly 450 students from GNLU were helping courts across India to reduce the pending backlog.

Verma on the other hand proudly mentioned that of the 24 students, one of them was assisting him in research and he was extremely happy with the student's hard work and dedication.

He continued with, "Since the time I passed out as a law student, there has been a sea change in the way law courses are conducted today. During our time, we had visiting faculty and no full time faculty was there to teach us as most of them were practicing advocates. So students today are lucky to have full time faculty members".

However, Verma expressed his dissatisfaction after learning the statistics of students joining the legal profession. He said, "Of the students passing out of five-year course in law, only 10% join the profession. Others join corporate houses for lucrative offers. But lawyers are best known only when they argue in court."
