Some of the top IAS officers from the state are to visit Japan and China during May end to learn from the development of eco-cities and the impressive industrial development through SIR. The officers will be there for around 10 days.

Sources in chief ministers office (CMO) informed that, "the governments of India and Japan have organised Indo-Japan taskforces on the development of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) in May end and along with that a China tour has also been organised.

The government of India, Gujarat and Japan have agreed to develop eco-towns in Gujarat and India on the line of 'Kitakyushu eco-town' in Japan which is world known now. Two of Japan's leading companies, Mitsubishi and Hitachi, will come to Gujarat leading a consortium of various Japanese companies and are planning to establish smart eco-cities at Changodar Special Investment Region (SIR) and Dahej SIR on the highly ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Gujarat region project.

MoU was signed recently for these two projects. The main aim of visiting Japan is to study the development in eco-towns and follow up the development in early bird projects proposed by both the countries on DMIC route.

Along with Japan a five to six days China tour has also been planned to study the development in China through various SIR (special investment region) and development of trading and service industry of Shanghai.''

Japan's ministry of economy, trade and industry (METI) is making available to DMIC its expertise for development of small communities. Japan has been the frontrunner in introducing sustainability concepts through innovative planning and implementation models that incorporate industrial ecology, wastewater and renewable energy. "Kitakyushu Eco-Town" in Japan is one such example that has received global acclaim.

The state government has proposed 12 SIRs on the DMIC region of the state in which various smart eco-towns will be developed.  These are Dholera, Sanand, Changodar, Santalpur, Halol-Savli, Hajira, Navlakhi, Simar, pipavav. Anjar and Okha.
