The Gujarat high court has ordered to maintain a status quo in the case of Bal Bhavan owned by the Congress-backed social organisation Indian Council for Social Welfare.

It should be noted that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation had taken possession of the property situated at Paldi on Saturday. Justice RM Shah issued showcause notice to the AMC and municipal commissioner. The hearing of the case will be held on December 29.

Natu Patel, secretary of Indian Council for Social Welfare filed a writ in the high court stating that as the building was not repaired by the civic body, the organisation was not in a position to use it for the cause of children. He further said that using the building in its present state could have resulted in accident. He also termed the civic body's action as illegal.

It should be noted that the municipal commissioner had written a letter to the governor of Gujarat, who is also patron of the organisation, stating that the repairing of the building could cost Rs12.95 lakh and the provision for the same would be done in the budget of financial year 2009-10.
