The Gujarat high court administration is planning to restrict entry of vehicles inside its campus.

It has come up with a proposal to introduce magnetic stickers on vehicles of lawyers and other staff members of the court.  The proposal of introducing magnetic sticker will be a new innovation in the country.

Under the proposal, the vehicles will be first scanned at the main gate with the help of the sticker and only then will it be allowed to enter the court campus. The proposal is part of the measures mooted to enhance security and vigil at the state’s highest judicial complex, spread over a vast stretch of land containing various structural blocks.

The campus is one of the largest government structures in the state and is flanked by farmland on both the sides. The court premises is frequented by thousand of visitors every day and the need for enhanced security measure was realised after the frequent terror alerts sounded by the state and central intelligence agencies.

“We are in the process of introducing stickers with magnetic tape to be put on vehicles of frequent visitors, including lawyers and staff,” said GR Udhwani, registrar general of the high court.
Udhwani said the magnetic tape is just like a bar code.
“It will have the profile information of the person and vehicle number. The barricades installed at the high court main gate will automatically be lifted once the scanning machine put by security personnel recognises the code.”

The Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA) is also helping the administrative wing of the high court in implementation of these measures. Yatin Oza, president of GHCAA, said, “We are in the process of making high security stickers and will prepare a list of lawyers and their profiles which can be used on these stickers.”

Oza, who is also a senior counsel, said that they will create a profile of each lawyer and their vehicle and each one would be given a special number to be mentioned on the sticker. Therefore, the security personnel can identify them by the number in addition to the magnetic tape on the sticker.

At present, high security arrangements have been made inside the high court complex and the security personnel frisk all visitors and vehicles. The magnetic sticker is the latest innovation as the earlier high court administration issued simple stickers with just numbers on them. These stickers were given after registering the lawyers or other staff members name, contact number and vehicle number. The new system will enhance the security measures.

After the blast outside Delhi high court, authorities are taking steps to install CCTV cameras. The tender for the same was floated recently by the administration.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Sandip Singh, DCP of Zone-1 visited the high court campus and convened a meeting of lawyers in the Bar room. Singh elaborated various steps taken by police in addition to providing tips on how to be cautious. He also asked them to report to the police any suspicious movement in the court campus. "Singh came and briefed lawyers on how to be alert and vigilant in high court and inform the police if they find any suspicious movement or things," said Oza.
