AHMEDABAD: The Congress in Gujarat is finally up in arms, hoping to capitalise on the Vanzara fracas. Condemning the “cold-blooded killings of an innocent woman,” Congress leaders claimed the chief minister had killed Sohrabuddin at the behest of Rajasthan politicians to pocket a few hundred crores.

Aghast at the state government’s “cruelty”, union textile minister and senior Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela said, “Modi government executed Sohrabuddin and his family at the behest of top Rajasthan politicians. Sohrabuddin was an extortionist, and wealthy merchants wanted him out of their way.

The state government conveniently stepped in to bail out its friendly neighbour as it also served their purpose of spreading a fear psychosis in the state.” Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Bharatsinh Solanki said the state government would have bagged a few hundred crores from the deal.

“Even the attacks at Akshardham were staged, not to mention the burning of S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express at Godhra in 2002. Each alleged terrorist is always killed, severing any further links proving any proof. Why were there no terrorists when Keshubhai Patel was the CM?” he said.

Vaghela added that the state machinery is working hard to move honest CID officer Rajnish Rai from the case and hand it over to OP Mathur, considered to be close to the government.

“If the state home department is indeed innocent, it should come forward and welcome a CBI probe, instead of avoiding it,” he said. He also added that Justice KS Anand had written to Modi, reminding him that each encounter needs to be investigated by the police station in whose jurisdiction it takes place and a judicial investigation should be made mandatory.

“Modi’s communal card also falls flat here. Former state home minister Haren Pandya and Tulsi Prajapati were Hindus, then why were they killed? Because they were witness to Modi’s crimes and refused to keep mum about it,” he added.
