Barely a fortnight after blasts ripped through Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai, Ahmedabad will remember its kin killed in serial bomb blasts three years ago. On July 26, 2008, 20 blasts all over the city killed 56 people and seriously injured 240 more.

The Gujarat police after busting the Gujarat module of Indian Mujahideen have identified 23 people for waging war against the government to avenge the Post-Godhra riots. According to police records, 16 people planted 22 bombs under 14 police stations of the city.

The police have identified people who framed the conspiracy, organised different meetings, conducted terror camps, purchased explosives and converted them into Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs). Those who managed cars and cycles to plant the bombs and handled funds and SIM cards to execute the blasts were also classified.

Zahid Shaikh, Safdar Nagori and Yunus Mansuri are the prime suspects in the conspiracy for managing funds in the Ahmedabad blasts. The trio is also believed to have organised meetings and terror camps at Halol near Vadodara and Waghamon in Kerala.

Seven people including Afzal Usmani are under Gujarat police custody for purchasing cycles, LPG cylinders and also for parking explosive-laden cars outside Civil Hospital and LG Hospital on the day of the blasts. Ismail Mansuri, Kayamuddin Kapadia and Anik Saiyad are also among the seven arrested.

A key accused Sarfuddin Salim has been held responsible for making timer chips and attaching them to LPG cylinders to convert them into IEDs. The most vicious Civil Hospital bomb blast was planned by 15 people including Usmani who got the cars while the others did a recce of the hospital and arranged the LPG cylinders used in the blast.
