Gujarat and Rajasthan have decided to jointly attract tourists from Europe and the US to western India.
A memorandum of understanding for this is expected to be signed soon, said Vipul Mittra, principal secretary, tourism and civil aviation, government of Gujarat, at a press conference here at Great Indian Travel Bazaar 2011.
Mittra said this was decided when he met his counterpart, Usha Sharma, principal secretary, tourism, government of Rajasthan.
He said the Gujarat tourism department is also in talks with Maharashtra government for a joint western India tourism promotion strategy.
Mittra said Gujarat government was taking steps to improve air connectivity so that foreign tourists can fly to Ahmedabad or Surat and fan out to other destinations in the state.
For this purpose, the tourism department has tied up with Air Deccan which will run two ATR flights daily from Ahmedabad and Surat to 11 other airports in the state.
He said it has also been decided to promote film tourism in the state in a big way and the tourism department is talking to Bollywood producers to take advantage of Gujarat’s conducive environment for film shooting by way of hospitable and cultured people and law and order in the state.
He indentified Kutch and Mandvi as ideal locations for filmmakers.
